Upcoming Exciting ExpertRating Changes
We are excited to announce upcoming changes to the ExpertRating certifications on Rent a Coder. We hope to roll these out later this week, and when this occurs, not only will you have many more tests to choose from, but you will be able to take them for free, rather than paying $20 each. If you are considering taking a test now, you may wish to wait until this is available. More information will be posted when the new program is available.
Pay for Time Beta #3: Temporary Activation for all Buyer Projects

:
Pay for Time Beta #3: Temporary Activation for all Buyer Projects!
We are pleased to announce beta #3 of the "pay for time" feature (hourly bidding)! During beta #3, all buyers can now post a "pay for time" project. Buyers: to try this, select "pay for time" on the 2nd page of the bid request posting process. Sellers: all sellers can automatically participate in all projects posted during the beta by simply bidding on such projects.
Here are the ones that are currently open for bidding.
Please note that during beta, there may be hiccups so we appreciate your patience. Also, once we reach the maximum # of project for the beta, we unfortunately will have to deactivate this posting option for buyers. Of course it will be reactivated again, once the official "go live" date arrives.

Respect for Diversity 2
I have noticed that people who tend to gravitate to Rent A Coder tend to be more tolerant than the population as a whole. Here is a very
interesting email
that I received recently, that I think illustrates that very well.

New filters
2/2/2007
:
New bid request filters: Economy Type and English Fluency
Some coders have expressed frustration at having to weed through (and potentially waste their time bidding on) bid requests intended for coders of an opposite economy type or English fluency. When this occurs, the buyer''s time is also wasted as well, because they must evaluate and then discard an unqualified bid.
To solve this problem, two new filters have been added...
Economy Type
and
English Proficiency
. Most buyers do not have a preference in regards to either, and will not use this feature. But some do, and this filter allows them to post a bid request that targets only the type of coder that they want. When they do this, the site only shows the project to coders for whom this would apply to...making it "invisible" to the rest. (It also does the same thing in the daily coder newsletter). This saves all parties time and effort.
IMPORTANT: If you are a coder, please go to ''
My filters
'' and make sure your filters for these two new types are set properly. We have autoset them based on the usual values for your registered country, but if you have an unusual situation then you will be missing out on projects unnecessarily.
New feature: Expert Guarantee
12/20/2006
:
New feature--the Expert Guarantee
Are you an expert coder who is having trouble making your bids noticed, because of too much 'noise' from less qualified bidders? Or are you a buyer who has a 'must complete' project and/or need an expert, but can't determine which of your bidders is up to the task? The new
Expert Guarantee
feature enables expert coders to connect with buyers more quickly and easier than ever before. Click
here for more details!

Respect for Diversity
Recently a job was posted on Rent A Coder for a job creating a Flash animation that involved Muhammad (incidentally performing graphic actions that would offend many non-Muslims as well). It was removed and the buyer warned that a repost will cost them their account.
My opinion on this issue is that the gap between the Muslim and Christian communities is already too large. Some of us see the results of this gap every day in the news, and others experience it first hand. This gap is causing problems for many individual lives, families and our entire planet. A respect for diversity means that we do not add further fuel to the fire by deliberately pushing the "hot buttons" of others. Instead it means that we work to understand and then be sensitive to those issues. Finding this type of common ground is the first step in working to close the gap.
I have found that the people who tend to gravitate to Rent A Coder tend to be more tolerant than the population as a whole. Thanks to those who helped notify us about this posting.

A "Buyer" With Bad Intentions
All coders are urged to be on the lookout for
this buyer
who we estimate has gotten over $100,000 worth of free software developed, from coders who chose not to follow site rules (due to either greed or ignorance) and allowed themselves to be taken advantage of. If you are coder, don't become a victim.
